Indian pace sensation Umran Malik showed his potential during the first day of play in the 2022 Irani Cup. Representing the Rest of India team in the clash against 2020 Ranji Trophy champions Saurashtra, Umran was at his best and made a big case for selection into the Indian national team.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  1. Umran Malik produced a brutal yorker in the 2022 Irani Cup
  2. Umran is playing for the Rest of India team led by Hanuma Vihari
  3. Umran made his debut for Team India in T20I cricket earlier this year

Few fast bowlers have excited Indian cricket fans over the years as much as Umran Malik. His raw pace has troubled some of the best players in the country and around the world during the 2022 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

It only seems a matter of time before the right-arm pacer becomes a regular on the Indian team sheet across formats. Umran gave a stunning exhibition of his talent on the opening day of action of the 2022 Irani Cup at Rajkot against Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium.

Umran was named in the Hanuma Vihar-led Rest of India (ROI) squad and made the most of his chance. The pacer helped the ROI attack run havc against the hosts as the Jaydev Unadkat-led outfit. Saurashtra were bowled out for just 98 with the pacers having a dream day at the office.

It was Bengal fast bowler Mukesh Kumar who led the brilliant display with a four-wicket haul while both Umran and Kuldeep Sen took three wickets each. One of Umran’s dismissals was that of opposition captain Unadkat. The delivery was one that impressed cricket lovers all across the globe as the brutal yorker delivered at high pace left the batsman bamboozled.

The ROI batters built on the advantage given by their bowlers and finished the day with a 107-run lead. While their top three of Mayank Agarwal, Abhimanyu Easwaran, and Yash Dhull departed with the team having just 18 runs on the board. Skipper Vihari and Sarfaraz Khan got the team back on track with a huge partnership as they went into stumps unbeaten on the crease.

Sarfaraz built on his red-hot form and scored a century while Vihari is batting on 62 as the ROI look favourites to seal the title after end of play on the opening day.

Talking about Umran, media reports have stated that he will travel with the Indian team to Australia as a reserve player for the T20 World Cup following the injury to Jasprit Bumrah.

After an incredible season with SRH in IPL 2022, Umran was picked in the Indian team and played a total of 3 T20Is during the tour of Ireland and England.
